Wrinkles: How Does Red Light Set Back The Clock?

What Are Wrinkles?

As we age, our skin cells age with us. The result of this is the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and crows feet on our skin.  This happens because in the aging process of the skin, its cells divide at a slower rate and cause the dermis to lose its elasticity and ability to retain water. Luckily, there are a variety of options to treat and manage wrinkles and fine lines. These treatments are often referred to as anti-aging or skin rejuvenation treatments. Below we will help you find the regimen that works for you to help rejuvenate your skin and restore your youthful glow.

How Do You Avoid Getting Wrinkles?

While some wrinkle formation is a natural byproduct of aging, other wrinkle formations occur as a response to lifestyle, and with some simple changes you can reduce the appearance of wrinkles as you age.

Frown lines and crow’s feet are two specific types of wrinkles; lines around your mouth and around your eyes, respectively. Their appearance is made more likely by frequent squinting and frowning. As simple as it may sound – try to turn your frowns upside down!

Smoking can dramatically increase the appearance of wrinkles, particularly around the lips due to the manuevers associated with smoking. In addition to this, smoking also has a negative effect on your skin’s collagen production and can actually hasten the aging process. It’s best to avoid smoking altogether.

Standing directly in sunlight for long periods of time can have a negative impact on the skin as well. The sun’s long-term damage on the skin causes wrinkles as you age. When possible, wear sunscreen and avoid over-exposing your skin to direct sunlight.

How Does Red Light Help?

LED Light Therapy using red light is able to stimulate the skin cells’ fibroblasts into producing more collagen. This will firm and smooth wrinkles and fine lines.  Red light has a long enough wavelength to penetrate the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) and reach the dermis (the middle layer of the skin). This enables it to reach fibroblasts, special types of cells that sit beneath the skin and manufacture collagen – a protein that helps tighten and firm the skin and heal wounds

In addtion to this, clinical studies have shown that red light also reduces inflammation in the cells of the body which is exactly why light therapy is able to integrate seamlessly with other treatment modalities. By reducing inflammation, the mechanisms working in peptides, for example, and able to work into the skin over time much easier and deliver their chemical compounds where necessary.

Light therapy sessions are fast, – usually between 15 and 30 minutes – painless, require no down time, and are said to be very relaxing. While results can take between 4-8 weeks, most users feel a pleasant, warm glow after each treatment.

Introducing – POLY

Since our beginning as UVBioTek, selling narrowband UV-B devices for psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo, we have maintained a deep passion for providing people with safe, natural, reliable options for taking control of their health and appearance.

In 2016 we began our “Science of Light” project which was designed to leverage the inherent healing properties in light and find new and exciting ways to deliver new treatment options to the aesthetic and wellness marketplaces. This project has evolved to become the POLY project, which is now culminating in 2017 with the launch of our POLY system – and eventually our entire POLY product line. We are continuing our efforts to develop new systems to treat and manage a wide variety of conditions and hope you’ll be there with us on this exciting journey.

So what is POLY? POLY, short for polychromatic led therapy system, is our newest innovation in light therapy. POLY utilizes multiple wavelengths through interchangeable heads to deliver a variety of aesthetic and wellness treatment modalities. What makes POLY special is the one-of-a-kind 5-Panel FLEX design head. This design allows for the most efficacious treatment by having the ability to contour closely to the face or any part of the body. POLY is a sleek 60 pound system that can easily be wheeled from one area of the office to another and features an intuitive LCD touchscreen display.

POLY is more than its features, though. POLY is a reminder of what it means to be in the aesthetic industry today; the ability to adapt, the drive to evolve. Our system not only helps evolve your skincare lineup, but it helps you, as a provider of services, adapt to any situation to ensure every client has the options she or he needs. POLY integrates seamlessly with a wide variety of existing services, which means you can offer POLY to add value to your most popular treatments, or sell POLY treatments on their own. POLY helps you adapt and serves you and your clients in many different ways.

This is why we called our system POLY: it means many, and the spirit of ‘many’ is what drives our team to offer you the best in light therapy. We wanted to create something that was built for many skin types, designed to serve many functions, and work in many places. At the end of the day, POLY is for everyone – including you.
