How to treat your skin in the fall

It’s September, so it’s officially Fall! Even though it may not feel like it, you should start prepping your skin for Fall and impending Winter. Read on below for some suggestions of things you can do to prepare!

Moisturize with Squalene

As the weather becomes less humid in the Fall, your skin is going to become drier. That’s because there is less moisture in the air for your skin to absorb. Try adding a serum or moisturizer that has squalene in it.  Squalene is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies and many other animals and plants. It’s one of the many natural lipids your body produces to lubricate and protect your skin. Squalene is a better option than a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid because hyaluronic acid requires moisture from the air (humidity) to work properly. Something to keep in mind is that squalane (the hydrogenated version) is usually made from sharks. If this is something that bothers you, don’t worry. Squalene is derived from plants and is the same substance!

Exfoliate or peel

If you gave your skin a bit of a beating this summer in terms of sun exposure, exfoliating once or twice a week or getting a chemical peel may be a good option for you. This will help remove hyperpigmentation and damaged skin caused by sun damage.

Jade roll or use an ice pack mask

Heat and sun exposure in the summer can cause flushed skin. To cool things down, pop a jade roller or mask in the freezer. The cold will help ease inflammation caused by heat and sun exposure.

5 Supplements To Take For Beautiful Skin

You’ve slathered stuff on the outside of your skin to keep it healthy, but what you put on the inside matters too! Let us make some suggestions for you!

1.) Fern extract

Fern extract is sometimes referred to as Polypodium Leucotomos Extract, or PLE extract, as that chemical compound is the primary active ingredient. Fern extract acts as a repairer of damaged caused by the sun. It helps restore collagen to skin!

2.) COQ10

CoQ10 is a super antioxidant that helps get rid of free radicals and other toxins in your body. Thus, it has the effect of promoting healthy skin and allowing your body to make as much collagen as possible.

3.) Biotin

Biotin is an essential B vitamin, also known as vitamin B7, that helps promote beautiful skin, as well as healthy nails and hair. Biotin is known to improve the structure of keratin, the important protein present in hair. Keratin is present in the skin and nails as well – one reason biotin has benefits in this aspect too.

4.) Tumeric

Tumeric contains curcumin, which acts as a super antioxidant and has been shown to have a number of health benefits, including anti-aging properties.

5.) Zinc

Yes, the vitamins typically used to battle a cold are also great for skin! Studies found that zinc can decrease oil production in the skin, and can protect against bacterial infection and inflammation. Zinc is a great supplement to take if you have acne.
